An interview with Comjam1998 and JakeR2000 from Project Ulysses. They are part of a group that creates mods for the grand strategy game, Hearts of Iron 4. Rather than simply renaming real world nations that are already featured in the game they are creating the actual continents and countries seen throughout the Ace Combat series.
An interview with the development team for Project Ulysses is the third entry into our Lighthouse interview series. Project Ulysses is a group that creates mods for the grand strategy game Hearts of Iron IV. Rather than merely renaming real-world nations that are already featured in the game, they are building the actual continents and countries seen throughout the original Ace Combat world, referred to by fans as "Strangereal."
Hearts of Iron IV was released on June 6th, 2016. Developed and published by Paradox Interactive, it is the fourth installment of the Hearts of Iron grand strategy war game series, which primarily focuses on the events of World War II and allows players to create alternative history timelines. As it is a grand strategy game, it goes far beyond the standard real-time strategy genre. One of the many ways it differs is the inclusion of managing government, diplomacy, trade and other parts of state affairs.
Project Ulysses has been in development since August 2017. The initial dev team consisted of three members: Sashook, JakeR2000 and Comjam1998. With their goal of making an amazing Ace Combat conversion mod that the Hearts of Iron of Iron IV community could enjoy, the three of them set out. They split up their tasks with Sashook doing modeling, JakeR200 focusing on map-making, and Comjam1998 taking up content creation. Today their original goal remains unchanged but the team has grown up to eight people over the past few months.
This interview with Comjam1998 and JakeR2000 from Project Ulysses was done by Izanagi, an administrator of Lighthouse, acting as the interviewer.
