This photo gallery will feature screenshots from the 2006 game produced by Maddox Games, IL-2 1946. This version is Cubeboy’s highly modded installation of said title, including aircraft that go from the 1940’s dogfighters to the currently in service F/A-18C, including aircraft that rarely are flyable in any other game.
“Naming this gallery was pretty simple to me, because it is how I feel about IL-2 1946. You can make this game into whatever you want, fly whatever you want and as fast as each aircraft lets you fly. Watching this game get more and more out of its original vision of a WW2 Flight game is amazing. The capability of simulating an intercept mission with an F-4J equipped with AIM-7 and AIM-9 missiles makes me feel like this is not the same game anymore”.
“One of my favorite mods to fly is the F-4 Phantom II and all of its variants. Released on the SAS forums a while back by 4S_Vega and his collaborators, this plane has what is in my opinion the best capabilities inside of the game. It is a capable and well-rounded aircraft, it has an integrated WSO operator system that tells you about any threats that you might face”.
“Other aircraft that is remarkable for its detail and overall excellence is the MiG-21 family of fighters also by 4S_Vega and the community. This pack features 17 variants of the Fishbed, from 1959 to 1995. My favorite of all, mainly because of its looks is the original Fishbed, the MiG-21F”.
“Something that all of these mods have in common is the necessity of the Jet Era mod by SAS~Anto. This mod is the base of all other jets, but in itself is an incredibly detailed pack that includes the F-86 (and its variants), the MiG-15 and the MiG-17. With this pack you are able to recreate Korean War scenarios very nicely”.
“The capability of creating scenarios is a key component of truly enjoying what these mods can offer to you; one of my most used and flown scenarios are the Vietnam War and scramble intercept missions. Here you can see both of these examples, one of an airbase crowded with returning planes after bombing Vietcong positions and one of a SM-12PMU launching up to intercept a night bombing raid”.
“And to finish it all I leave you some eye candy in the form of the results of a very difficult to conclude photo shoot. Taking good pictures inside of IL-2 1946 can prove to be very difficult, mainly due to its very limited camera system but with patience and a lot of restarts you can get some decent shots like these”.
